Notes for Harwood Bannister
Harwood’s father died in 1858 when Harwood was 4. His mother remarried Solon Mudgett in 1864. In 1870, Solon Mudgett moved the family to DeKalb, Illinois. Solon, son Irving, and later Harwood worked the family farm. After 1880, Solon and Sophia moved from the farm and sold it to Harwood. The farm was 160 acres in Section 29 of DeKalb Township, SW of the city of DeKalb and close to Malter Township. Bannister family moved off of this farm ini 1892, back on it in 1904, then off in 1912.

Will stated that Phenie would get all household items, horse, buggy, etc Real estate would be divided equally between all children

Owned 160 acres in section 29 of DeKalb per Atlas of DeKalb (purchased from Aaron K Stiles per Chas H Bannister), unclear if this is the same tract owned by Solon Mudgett on which Harwood grew up. Both were 160 acres. And Harwood acquired his tract in late 1880, about the same time Solon Mudgett was leaving the DeKalb area,

1913 148 John St (with Phenie)
1917 220 S. 5th (with Charles, Charles works at Hollands)

Harwood purchased farm Nov 29, 1880 from A.K. Styles borrowing money from Lyman Truman. Deed shows Consideration: $1,000, Book 64, Page 432, Description NW, Section 29, Town 40, Range 4, Filed 12/22/1880 @ 2:00 pm

Interesting note: Dad looked through assessors books and county courthouse records and found:

Solon Mudget paying taxes from 1873 through 1877, then disappearing from records
Harwood began paying taxes in 1878 and continued through 1884 which is as far as Dad looked

Is this evidence that the farm passed from Solon to Harwood
