Notes for Jane Eliza Drury
Both Samuel and Jane were named as defendants in a lawsuit 1/3/1907 in the Jetmore, KS paper
Explanation of Proof of this family as ancestors:
Jennie Bannister listed as wife on Harwood Bannister’s death record in 1919
Harwood and Jennie Bannister are both burried in same cemetery
Fannie Townsend listed as mother on Phenie Bannister’s death record in 1927. (Fannie could be nickname or mistake)
Phebe Townsend Meeker signed Charles Harwood Bannister’s birth certificate as Aunt in 1948 for his 1888 birth, therefore Charles mother (or Harwood’s wife) had maiden name of Townsend
Several family documents list Jennie Townsend Bannister as being born in Delevan, Tazewell County, Illinois
1870 Census for Samuel and Jane Townsend in NY shows both Phebe and Jane as children, also on that census is Clara Drury (sister of Jane Drury Townsend, wife of Samuel)
Family ikely moved to Illinois between 1870 and 1877.
1900 Census for Phebe Townsend Meeker in Tazewell County Illinois, includes Clara Drury who is listed as Aunt.
This is all consistent with information contained in letter to Charles Harwood Bannister from Lawrence D. Townsend.
Update: The Townsend/Drury family started in NY, moved to Ill, moved back to NY, then back to west again this time to Kansas, and later to Washington State.
