Notes for Phenie Irene Bannister #1
Dad’s notes on Douglas and Phenie:
Douglas had started a hatchery or was going to raise chickens. Later he worked for Ill. N. Util. Douglas was retired from the Army fairly soon because he was tubercular. In later years Douglas had Emphyzema rather bad and they would winter in Arizona.
Phenie was 1st and 2nd grade teacher at the time of her death.
The Illinois State Teachers College created The Phenie Bannister Stultz club or chapter that was active into the 1940’s per various newspaper articles.
Birth year 1890 in 1900 Census. 1891 according to obit. in the Franklin Reporter of Thursday May 5, 1927. Phenie's birth year is also supported by a 1910 portrait photograph, which has writing on the back that says she was 19 at that time.
