Obituary:
Mr. Joe Douglas Smith, 69, of Cartersville, GA passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Smith was born in Paragould, AR to the late Mr. Claude Smith and Mrs. Dorothy Harrison Smith October 14, 1949.
Joe was a devoted family man, always commenting that his children were his hobby. Joe was a loving husband of 49 years to Mrs. Lura Gail Bunch. He felt that his main job was to make her happy at which he succeeded. He was a caring and loving Grandpa Joe to his grandchildren, leaving fond memories of "goofing" and movie marathons. He set an example to his children and grandchildren as a hard worker, with careers in sales and as a postal carrier for the U.S.P.S., where they knew him as "Papa Smurf". Joe will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Judy Miller and Paula Smith; grandchild, Amos Michael Smith; adoptive parents, Mr. Arthur Matthew "Dode" Smith and Mrs. Letha Knott Smith; adoptive brother, Bobby Smith; and father-in-law, Arthur B. Bunch.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lura Gail Bunch Smith; children, Joseph Matthew (Stephanie) Smith, James Arthur (Dawn) Smith, David Earl (Robin) Smith, Amanda Gail (Jason) Morton; grandchildren, Valerie Danielle Smith, Katherine Dawn Smith, Jessica Gail Smith, Nathaniel Arthur Smith, Lillyanne Mae Smith, and VeraJean Rae Smith; sisters, Norma Wills, Nelda Pantaleo, Marsha Roper, Myra Hochstetler, Charla Foresythe, and brother, Bart Bingham; adoptive siblings, Ada Moore and Verlon Smith; and mother-in-law, Mrs. Wavajo Imogene Bunch.
A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted Sunday, March 17, 2019 at two thirty in the afternoon in the Owen funeral Home Chapel with Keith Guyton officiating.
The family cordially invites friends to a reception following the service at Owen Funeral Home.
