Notes for Hilma Christine Josephine Molander
Immigration date doesn’t fit with Sanna’s birth

In Plano, Hilma raised her own garden, had a cow for milking, did washing and ironing to keep food on her table. She was also an expert seamstress, making most of her children’s clothes.

In DeKalb, she worked by cleaning at the Elwood Mansion and got 50 cents per day

In later years, she rented out rooms to students and teachers.

She valued education and wanted her children to get as much education as possible but Adolf and Wesley quit school to help the family earn a living. Erma, Ethel, and Roy all finished high school. Erma became a nurse, Ethel a teacher, Roy a bookkeeper.
