Notes for James Able Welch
James Able Welch was born at West Point, Lawrence, TN Sept 11, 1841. He served at age 19 in the 25th Tennessee Infantry under General Brag, 1861.
He first married Nancy Lavinia Crook, daughter of Lieutenant Willis Arnold Crook, who served Co G 7th MS Cav. 2nd Lt In, 1st Lt and was Killed in the Battle of Harrisburg, 1822-1864 and Tabitha Cotton, 1823-1874.
James and Nancy Lavinia had four daughters, Eliza Lorene Welch, 1846-1914, Susan Tabitha Welch, 1869-1957, Jeanetta Welch, 1872-?, and Louella 'Ella' Welch, 1876-1911.
James married, secondly, Minnie Viola Seawright, November 23, 1879.They had 7 daughters and two sons. Laney Ann Welch, 1881-1883, Nannie May Welch,1883-1959. James Lee Welch, 1886-1948, Betty Deestry Welch, 1888-1923, Mary Blanche Welch, 1891-1914, Thompson Isaac Welch, 1893-1980, Vivian Lucile Welch, 1895-1918, Winnie Davis Welch, 1898-1987, Ruth Vera Welch, 1902-1996.
